Today we are experiencing our first snow storm. I love to ride my bike and the worse the weather, the more enjoyable it is. When you are on your bike, you feel like a child again. Traveling by bicycle helps you to experience your surroundings more vividly than when you are in a car. First of all, you experience the weather first hand. More importantly, though, you observe what is happening around you more clearly. For example, even on the worst weather days, I will see other bikers on the streets. More people ride their bikes than you know.
I don’t do large bike tours, but I commute regularly. In college, I briefly worked as a bike messenger in Manhattan. At that time, I sang in the choir at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Manhattan. One of the tenor section leaders, who lived in Brooklyn, rode his bike to church each Sunday.
